- Zero tolerance is zero tolerance. What if this knife got into the wrong hands and someone got hurt? I think the parents need to go to "parent education". I have to ask would we be having the same sympathy for a black child from the Bronx? Zero tolerance is for everyone.

Well as a former teacher you should also know that a sharpened pencil and scissors are equally harmful and can poke into eyes, nose and mouth besides body. I myself is a victim of that--so should my friend be sent to jail for this accidental mistake or eliminate pencils? Dear teacher try to make kids smarter in studies like chinese, japanese or indian kids rather than putting insane ideas into new developing brains. Its like saying oh baby don't learn to walk coz you will fall down. Get real--nothing happened, the kid has no intentions and he is still 6--suspending him is not going to help him. All he need is a good talk and explaination
